Support the 2-1-1 Act
Areas of
Georgia remain unserved
or underserved by 2-1-1 and a key
reason is resources to help states like ours build a
comprehensive database from which to make referrals on a
statewide basis. United Way of America is promoting a federal legislation that,
if adopted, could fill the gap of 211 coverage area in
Georgia and the country. Georgia co-sponsors
include US Representatives John Lewis, Jim Marshall, Sanford
Bishop, Charlie Norwood and US Senator Johnny
Isakson.
If you have not signed up to support the
2-1-1 Act, below are just a few stats on the impact
United Way of Metropolitan Atlanta 211 had in our community during 2005:
- United Way 211 answered over 319,000 calls compared to 308,980 in 2004
- More than 19,500 people called 211 to volunteer and/or donate items to community serving agencies
- Over 16,000 hurricane Katrina and Rita evacuees called 211 in need of housing, clothing, food, jobs etc.
- 66,600 people used the United Way 211 online database to search for the assistance they needed.
By supporting the 2-1-1 Act, you are
not only supporting your local 211, but also all the 211s around the country.
