Support the 2-1-1 Act

Areas of Georgia remain unserved or underserved by 2-1-1 and a key reason is resources to help states like ours build a comprehensive database from which to make referrals on a statewide basis. United Way of America is promoting a federal legislation that, if adopted, could fill the gap of 211 coverage area in Georgia and the country. Georgia co-sponsors include US Representatives John Lewis, Jim Marshall, Sanford Bishop, Charlie Norwood and US Senator Johnny Isakson.

If you have not signed up to support the 2-1-1 Act, below are just a few stats on the impact United Way of Metropolitan Atlanta 211 had in our community during 2005:

  • United Way 211 answered over 319,000 calls compared to 308,980 in 2004
  • More than 19,500 people called 211 to volunteer and/or donate items to community serving agencies
  • Over 16,000 hurricane Katrina and Rita evacuees called 211 in need of housing, clothing, food, jobs etc.
  • 66,600 people used the United Way 211 online database to search for the assistance they needed.
By supporting the 2-1-1 Act, you are not only supporting your local 211, but also all the 211s around the country.

United Way of Metropolitan Atlanta (UWMA) is interested in helping you get the volunteers needed for the various projects of your agency. If your agency accepts groups of volunteers, please take a moment and complete the survey as accurately as possible by clicking on the link below. We thank you in advance for your support and feedback.
