Be an evacuee advocate
United Way has made a $300,000 grant to Hands On Atlanta for to launch a volunteer advocate program. Volunteer advocates will support displaced families as they navigate metro Atlanta's social service network - helping the families enroll their children in schools, secure transportation and seek employment and permanent housing. Volunteer advocates will attend a 4-hour training session, where they will learn how to support families to become self-sufficient. The advocates must commit three hours a week to working with families. Contact DaVida Lee-Williams at 404-979-2835 or DWilliams@HandsOnAtlanta.org.

Provide "re-starter kits" for families

Our goal is to create 1,500 kits for families moving into longer-term housing. These "re-starter kits" include basic furniture, linens, cleaning supplies and other goods. Your company and organization can help by adopting one or more families. You have the option of collecting and delivering the items to a family or contributing $900 per family. Download details and the commitment form here (pdf).
