YPL: How has United Way and YPL helped you?
Teanna:
United Way and YPL have helped me in many ways, both personally and professionally. Personally, I am able to contribute towards making the community where I live a better place and make a big impact. Professionally, UWGA and YPL have offered many leadership development opportunities through the programming that is available to YPL members.

YPL: What do you think are your greatest professional accomplishments?
Teanna:
One of my greatest professional accomplishments is being able to navigate and progress in one of the largest telecommunication giants in the world. I am proud to say that I have held over 5 management positions in the 15 years that I have worked for AT&T. Also, I have been afforded the opportunity to attain an MBA with the help of my company. There aren’t many corporations where you can reinvent yourself and grow professionally at the same time.

YPL: Why do you choose to give to United Way?
Teanna: I choose to give to United Way because it is the catalyst for providing what the community needs. UWGA has a proven track record of partnering with credible organizations to make sustainable change in the community.

YPL: What’s your biggest concern within the community?
Teanna: My biggest concern within the community is child wellbeing. I feel that children should be given every opportunity to succeed in life. There are a large number of children in the metro Atlanta area whose basic needs aren’t being met. Many of these children don’t have food, clothing, or shelter. We must help families where they are, and give them a hand-up out of a bad situation.

YPL: What would you tell someone who is considering joining YPL?
Teanna: Just do it! Come to a YPL event, it will change your life and the way you see community service. YPL is a great place for young professionals to serve their community, grow professionally, and have fun while doing it.

YPL: What is your favorite YPL event or experience and why?
Teanna: My favorite YPL event is our annual HoliDAY of Service. I love this event because it is one of the biggest YPL events of the year. Last year we had over 200 young professionals volunteer at various organizations. I was a part of a team that worked on beautification projects for the YWCA. We did yard work, cleaned the facilities, and painted walls. The president of the YWCA and her staff were great to partner with and truly appreciated the work that was accomplished while we were there. It is a great feeling to visually recognize that you contributed to making an impact in the community.

YPL: What are your hobbies/interests?
Teanna: I enjoy golfing, event planning, traveling (domestic and international) … and an occasional shopping spree.

YPL: If you could speak with anyone past or living, who would it be?
Teanna: Prince.

YPL: Who in the world (past or living) do you most admire and why?
Teanna: I admire FLOTUS, Michelle Obama. As the First Lady, Michelle Obama is such a dynamic woman who always shows such grace and class. I admire how strong and courageous she is. I love the things that she has done while in the White House and I look forward to seeing how she will continue to change the world.
