Dori Balser, YU Board Officer, Welcomes New Members

“Growing up in Metro Atlanta, I’ve spent countless hours in the ubiquitous Atlanta traffic. Sitting in the backseat of my mom’s Honda Odyssey, I remember seeing homeless people under bridges, and I was moved to tears. I just could not comprehend why I got to live in a nice house with clean clothes and whatever food I wanted, while others right down the street had no home. Since my childhood, I have been inspired to help those in need.

Service has always been an important part of my life. I believe that it is our responsibility as humans to be there for other humans in times of need. As teens, we need to value the importance of service and helping other people, because we are the future. One day, our parents and teachers will not be there to help us, so we need to learn how to be there for each other.

Volunteering in the local community has implications much greater than many could imagine. The impact we make here in Atlanta radiates outward and inspires other people to make a difference in their communities as well. We have our whole life ahead of us to make a positive impact on the world. So why not start now?

I am so excited to welcome the new members of Youth United. This is a fantastic organization, and we have a lot in store for this year. I can’t wait to see the impact we can make together, and I hope you will join us for the year ahead.”
