The biggest challenge of getting higher education is paying for it. Many times, financial aid and scholarships like HOPE are not enough to cover the cost. More and more people are relying on large student loans. Scholarships are resources that can help ease the burden! Searching for scholarships can often be daunting, and it can be hard to find ones that you qualify for. As a member of Youth United, you have something a lot of other students don’t have: a strong sense of leadership and a commitment to service! Believe it or not, there are scholarships available for students with these characteristics. Below are some scholarships for students who show leadership and community service.


AXA Achievement Scholarship

Details: Demonstrate ambition and self-drive as evidenced by outstanding achievement in school, community or work-related activities. $2,500, $10,000 or $25,000 scholarship, and $1000 grant will be awarded to the school.

Requirements: Must be a US resident and a high school senior planning to attend a 2 or 4 year college

Deadline September 5th- December 15th or until 10,000 applications are submitted



Bonner Program

Details: The Bonner Scholar Program supports individuals who otherwise could not afford to attend college because of financial need. The program meets the full documented financial need of each student. Students must be attending a school with a Bonner Scholars program and will apply through their campus

Requirements: You must perform 10 hours of community service per week during the school year and 280 total hours in the summer.



Great Value Colleges Community Service Scholarship

Details: Write a 1000-1500 word essay that describes your favorite community project, your involvement in this project, and how this project enhanced and/or added value to your college education for a $1500 scholarship

Requirements: Must be a US citizen attending or planning on attending college with a GPA of 3.0 or higher

Deadline July 15 (fall award); November 15 (spring award).



LNSF National Scholastic Achievement Awards

Details: You must display motivation, sincerity, and community involvement for a $2000 scholarship

Requirements: GPA of 3.5+;  29+ on the ACT or 1350+ on the SAT

LNSF Honors Awards

Details: You must display motivation, sincerity, and community involvement for a $500- $2000 scholarship

Requirements: GPA of 3.0+; 23+ on the ACT test or 1100+ on the SAT

LNSF General Awards

Details/Requirements: Grades and academic performance will serve as indicators of potential; however, an emphasis may be placed on the individual’s motivation, sincerity, and community involvement.

Montage Memory Makers Scholarship

Details: Young community leaders who are making the world a better place may receive a 10,000 scholarship towards an accredited college or university, a Prize Trip: A two-night stay at one of our Montage Hotels & Resorts locations and a Montage Magazine Highlight: All winners will be included in the spring 2018 issue of Montage Magazine

Requirements: Must be between the ages of 13-17



Most Valuable Student Award

Details: The 20 top finalists will participate in an all-expenses paid Leadership Weekend in Chicago during which they’ll interview with the national judges. These 20 finalists will be vying for two first-place awards of $50,000; two second-place awards of $40,000; and two third-place awards of $30,000. The remaining 14 finalists will receive awards of $20,000. The 480 runners-up will receive fifth-place scholarships of $4,000.

Requirements: You must be a US citizen and high school senior; you must have shown/proven leadership

GE- Reagan Foundation Scholarship

Details: You must demonstrate the attributes of leadership, drive, integrity, and citizenship at school, at the workplace, and within the community to receive a $10,000 scholarship renewable for up to an additional three years – up to $40,000 total per recipient

Requirements: GPA of 3.0 or higher



State Farm Good Neighbor Scholarship

Details: Be a leaders and volunteer in your community for a $5000 scholarship over two years

Requirements: Must be a high school senior with a GPA of 2.5 to 3.2

Horatio Alger Association National Scholarships

Details: Be involved in co-curricular and community service activities for a $25,000 scholarship and receive an all-expenses paid trip to Washington, D.C. during the spring of your senior year to participate in the National Scholars Conference.

Requirements: Must be a high school senior and demonstrate critical financial need ($55,000 or lower adjusted gross family income is required)

Horatio Alger Association |O. Wayne Rollins Foundation Scholarship

Details: Be involved in co-curricular and community service activities for a $10,000 scholarship

Requirements: Must be a high school senior and demonstrate critical financial need ($55,000 or lower adjusted gross family income is required)

Imagine America Foundation Scholarship

Details: For high school graduates who intend to enroll at a career college that have demonstrated community service during senior year for a $1000 scholarship

Requirements: GPA of 2.5 or higher and must be able to demonstrate financial need



Coca Cola Foundation Scholarship

Details: Students who have shown a commitment to improving their communities are eligible for this award. 150 Coca-Cola Scholars are selected each year to receive this $20,000 scholarship.

Requirements: Must demonstrate academic achievement and be a student.

Wendy’s High School Heisman Scholarship

Details: This scholarship is for proven leaders and role models within their school and community.

Requirements: Must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher and applicants must perform in at least one of the 47 school sponsored sports recognized by the International Olympic Committee in the Summer and Winter Olympic Games or the National Federation of State High School Associations

League Foundation LGBT Scholarship

Details/Requirements: This scholarship is open to LGBT high school seniors with a GPA of 3.0 or higher, who are involved in community service

Deadline: Applications OPEN January 1st



The National Honor Society Scholarship

Details: 475 national semifinalists – $2,850 scholarship; 24 national finalists – $5,150 scholarship; 1 national winner – $22,650 scholarship

Requirements: You must be a high school senior and a member in good standing of an active NHS chapter

Deadline: October 6th- January 30th



Peace Scholarships

Details/Requirements: Awards of $250 or $500 for high school seniors and college freshmen with demonstrated leadership and personal initiative in activities involving: Peace and Social Justice, Nuclear Disarmament, and/or Conflict Resolution

Deadline: March 1st



The Princeton Prize in Race Relations

Details/Requirements: This $1,000-prize is awarded to students in grades 9–12 who have been involved in community service in the past 12 months and have encouraged positive race relations

Students will also be invited to attend a symposium at Princeton

Stephen J. Brady Stop Hunger Scholarship

Details/Requirements: This scholarship is for students aged 5–25 who have shown on-going commitment to an unpaid volunteer activity in the past year that involves fighting hunger. Additional consideration is given if you have been fighting childhood hunger. Winners will receive an award of $5,000 for their education plus a $5,000 grant in their name to a hunger-related charity of their choice

Jesse Brown Memorial Youth Scholarship

Details: Nominations for this award may be submitted by the Voluntary Service Program Manager at the VA medical center, DAV Department Commander, or the student may complete a self-nomination. This is a $20,000 with additional scholarships at $15,000, $10,000 , $7,500 , and $5,000.

Requirements: This scholarship is for those who have logged a minimum of 100 hours with a VA medical center.



Comcast Leaders and Achievers Programs

Community Volunteer Scholarship

Details: Exemplify outstanding community volunteer involvement for a $1500 scholarship

Requirements: You must be enrolled full-time at a college or university in the USA or Canada for the 2018-2019 academic year

Ziprecruiter Scholarship

Details: The most creative one-page submission about one’s past job and a future job they may be interested in will win a $3000 scholarship for one semester.

Requirements: Must be 18 or older in the year 2018.
