United Way 2-1-1 Launches Opioid Text Program

United Way 2-1-1 of Greater Atlanta is part of a 2-1-1 network across the country addressing the opioid epidemic by making resources available thru text referrals. By texting “opioid” to 898211, individuals can choose from one of the following:

  • Resources for anyone concerned about someone using opioids – Includes signs of opioid use/overdose reversal medication, treatment options, detox – in and out patient, support groups for family/friends or persons using.
  • Resources for a person addicted to opioids – Includes treatment options, detox – in and out patient, local support groups.
  • Assistance for professionals and service providers – Includes information on how to be added as a resource for treatment and best practices for treatment providers.

Additionally, anyone can dial 2-1-1 at any time to speak with one of our Community Connection Specialists.

About a week after sending the information through text, clients receive continuous follow-up text messages in order to provide additional support and assistance. The goal of the program is to connect the community with resources and help those with an opioid addition find ways to kick the habit.
