Child Well-Being Mission Fund

To be eligible to receive a grant, all organizations must:
Be classified by the U.S. Internal Revenue Service under Section 501(c)(3) of the I.R.S. code as a nonprofit, tax-exempt organization, donations to which are deductible as charitable contributions under Section 170 (c)(2) or have a fiscal sponsor that qualifies as a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization. I.R.S. determination must be current.

Be located and providing services in at least one of the following counties: Butts, Cherokee, Clayton, Cobb, Coweta, DeKalb, Douglas, Fayette, Fulton, Gwinnett, Henry, Paulding, Rockdale, or the City of Atlanta;

Be registered with the Georgia Secretary of State as a nonprofit (verify status);

Have an independent governing body consisting of at least nine voting members who are resident volunteers, that has the authority to decide policy and strategic direction with respect to the agency's programs, administration and finances, in accordance with the organization's By-Laws, and who shall meet at least four times per year.  Paid staff must not be a voting member of the Board.

Maintain a non-discrimination policy or plan that does not discriminate on the basis of race, cultural heritage, religion, gender, national origin, age, marital status, sexual orientation, veteran status or status as a qualified disabled or handicapped individual.

Demonstrate financial management - All financial statements must show evidence of accounting principles in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Procedures (GAAP) and include full disclosures and appropriate notes for such things as leases, loans, investments and affiliated party transactions.

Based upon the charitable structure of the Fund, our grants are limited to 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations, groups fiscally sponsored by a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, or other charitable organizations able to receive a tax-deductible contribution, such as schools, faith-based organizations, and other public entities. We are not able to fund individuals or businesses directly, labor unions, or 501(c)(4), 501(c)(5), and 501(c)(6) organizations.

United Way of Greater Atlanta’s Child Well-Being Mission Fund currently has 5 open funding opportunities. Click below to read the Request for Proposals (RFPs). Each RFP may contain additional eligibility requirements, as well as guidance on anticipated award sizes and other grant information.

The current funding opportunities are open to any organization who meets the eligibility criteria, regardless of whether they have received funding from United Way of Greater Atlanta in the past.

Organizations who currently have an active grant from United Way are not eligible to apply. There are two exceptions: 

Exception #1: Organizations that have received funds administered through United Way for the following grant programs listed below are eligible to apply:   

• Emergency Housing Assistance Program 
• Building Opportunities in Out-of-School Time (BOOST) grant 
• School-Age Help and Relief Effort (SHARE) grant 
• Emergency Food and Shelter Program (EFSP) 

• United for Racial Equity and Healing Fund (UfREHF) 

 Exception #2: The Academic Support funding opportunity within the College and Career Ready Investment RFP. This funding opportunity is in partnership with the Georgia Department of Family and Children’s Services, and is open to any organization that meets the minimum requirements. Please review the College and Career Ready RFP for more details. 

Organizations may only submit one application for all open funding opportunities, including those in Strong Learners, Economic Stability, Brighter Future, and COVID-19 Recovery to Rebuilding Capacity Building. Organizations cannot submit for more than one RFP. We suggest that you review all of the Requests for Proposals and select the funding opportunity that most closely aligns with your work or capacity building needs.

Exception: Any organization that meets the minimum requirements for the Learning Loss (Academic Support) RFP may submit for that opportunity. The organization would still be eligible to apply for 1 additional funding opportunity across our 2022 RFPs.

United Way uses the following components to define a racial equity framework (adapted from Grantmaking with a Racial Equity Lens). A racial equity lens includes many components, including:

• Analyzing data and information about equity
• Understanding disparities and learning why they exist
• Looking at problems and their root causes from a structural standpoint
• Naming race explicitly when talking about problems and solutions
