As Cobb County postponed in-person classes in favor of online learning for the fall semester, there are several students living at the Elizabeth Inn Shelter with their families. They are working to create spaces on campus where these students can complete their school work while also maintaining safe, social distance. Volunteers willing to supervise and provide tutoring assistance as needed for these students are in high demand. Volunteers are needed Monday through Friday from 8am-12pm. Weekly commitment preferred. Volunteers must be 18 years of age and undergo a background check to volunteer. Skills needed include patience, tutoring experience is helpful but not required, comfortable using computers, and lastly, more patience. Experiencing homelessness is already a major disruption for these students; online schooling further challenges their ability to feel stable and secure.
