VOLUNTEER AT PARTNER AGENCY/LOCAL NON-PROFIT
The Volunteerism Department will help find volunteer opportunities with Partner Agencies and other local non-profits. Options include housing projects, outdoor spaces, education, sorting, donation, etc. Opportunities vary based on need and availability.
Budget: Starts at $0
SNACKPACKS
Volunteers assemble Snack Pack Kits in order to provide a full and balanced meal for children in the community who don’t have regular access to food, whether it be because of financial limitations or living in one of the many food deserts in Atlanta.
Budget: Starts at $3.50/item, minimum 100 @ $350
SNACKPACKS WITH BOOKS
Adding a book to our traditional snack pack project is a great way to enhance the literacy of children in the community. Volunteers assemble kits and add a grade level book and handwritten note to every bag.
Budget: $600 for 100 items.
STEAM KITS
Volunteers will assemble STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) Kits for underserved students in the Metro Atlanta community to encourage home learning experiences and activities. Kits will include various STEAM project materials and with printed manual guide instructions.
Budget: Starts at $25/each, minimum 100 @ $2,500
MILITARY KITS (ONLY December Holidays/Veterans Day)
Volunteers assemble care packages to go to active military members and veterans. Items include lotion, word puzzles, snacks, and clean socks.
Budget: Starts at $20/item, minimum 100 @ $2,000
LITERACY KITS
Volunteers assemble Literacy Kits for underserved students to encourage learning.
Budgets start at:
Pre-K: $20/item, minimum $100 @ $2,000
Elementary: $22.50/item, minimum 100 @ $2,250
Middle/High School: $25/item, minimum 100 @ $2,500
INDIVIDUAL CARE PACKAGES
Volunteers assemble care package to support women and/or children in shelters, who have been victims of domestic abuse or human trafficking.

POVERTY SIMULATION
Participants will have the opportunity to go through a simulation representing the day-to-day of people experiencing poverty.

HYGIENE KITS
Volunteers assemble Hygiene Kits to provide underserved members in our community with basic hygiene items, such as a toothbrush, toothpaste, and body soap. Recipients include shelters and various community programs that distribute resources to individuals in need.

$12/item, minimum 100 @ $1,200
DELUXE HYGIENE KITS
Volunteers will assemble hygiene kits that include basic necessities; adding a pair of sock and drawstring reusable bag. These kits are distributed to shelters and other programs that serve individuals and families in need.

BABY BOX
Volunteers assemble care packages with items to help prepare and support new mothers. Items include diapers, wipes, and a thermometer, to ensure that new parents are able to provide the best care in their own home. Baby Boxes are in high demand around the holidays, and also can be used in community baby showers.
Budget: Starts at $25/item, minimum 100 @ $2,500
FAMILY CARE PACKAGES
Volunteers assemble kits with items to support individuals transitioning into a new home, which include basic household items as well as personal hygiene items.
Budget: Starts at $50/item, minimum 50 @ $2,500
LETTER WRITING (Must be prior to Veterans Day/Holiday Season)
Volunteers will write letters of support and encouragement for military members. Recipients are UWGA partner agencies that serve veterans, as well as a Nationally Recognized initiative called Operation Gratitude.
Budget: Starts at $500 for 1,000+ letters
POWER PACKS
Volunteers assemble the adult version of our classic Snack Pack, which will provide a full and balanced meal for adults in the community who don’t have regular access to food. Whether individuals are limited by their financial situation or by living in one of the many food deserts in Atlanta, Power Packs bring relief to hunger.
Budget: Starts at $6.00/item, minimum 100 @ $600
STORYTIME / THEMED READING
Volunteers host a customized reading event at an early childcare center, school, or organization serving young students. Children will matriculate through stations manned by volunteers who are reading a book, and engaging in activities such as crafts, games, and cookie decorating on the theme of the book.

DONATION DRIVE
United Way of Greater Atlanta can provide guidance to any corporation or group interested in holding an on-site donation drive. Items to collect can range from toiletry items for women in shelters, to winter coats, to books for children. UWGA can also identify organizations in need to receive the donations.

BEAUTIFICATION OF AN ORGANIZATION
Volunteers can provide much needed improvements to an organizations facility by completing customized projects such as indoor or outdoor painting, landscaping, and deep cleaning. These maintenance projects are greatly appreciated by the organization’s staff and cleanliness provides a dignified experience for the clients served by the organization’s programming.

FIRESIDE CHAT WITH STUDENTS (Youth Development/Skilled Based)
Volunteers host and run a learning session with students, followed by a networking lunch. Topics of this speed mentorship project can range from career building skills to soft social skills, to topics of the company’s choice based on their employee’s own specialized knowledge.

FIELD DAY/HOLIDAY FESTIVAL
Help organizations serving children celebrate holidays by hosting a special extravaganza! Volunteers will man themed stations, which typically include cookie decorating, face painting, gym games, and prizes.

STEAM FAIR
STEAM lessons can start for children as early as 6months. Volunteers will host a fair at an early learning center to introduce pre-school aged students to the concept of STEAM learning. Each station will have a different educational activity for children to complete.

INTERNATIONAL LITERACY FAIR
Volunteers guide students using their “passports” to visit countries around the world, making stops for reading sessions.

SHOEBOX PARTY (BUDGETED) MARCH 1 - MAY 1

SHOEBOX PARTY – THE WORKS (MARCH 1 – MAY 1)

Recipients include shelters and various community programs that distribute resources to individuals in need. UWGA will coordinate shoebox pick up.

SHOEBOX PARTY (NON-BUDGETED) MARCH 1 - MAY 1
Volunteers can host a toiletry drive and collect items for a Shoebox Party. Volunteers are responsible for providing shoeboxes, decorating items, and hygiene items for the Shoebox Party. Although United Way cannot guarantee that a staff member will be present on the date of the event, UWGA will provide direction and advice in coordination of the project. Recipients include shelters and various community programs that distribute resources to individuals in need. Pickups can be scheduled for 150 or more boxes. If there are less than 150 boxes completed, boxes must be dropped off at one of our drop off locations.
Budget: None (Completed and donated to desired agency.)
HOST A TOILETRY DRIVE (SHOEBOX PROJECT) MARCH 1 - MAY 1
Companies, community groups, and individuals can host a toiletry drive and collect items using our accepted list of products. The toiletries can be dropped off at our Sorting & Distribution Warehouse. UWGA pickup is determined by the amount of toiletries collected.

WELCOME HOME KITS
Volunteers will spend 1.5 hours packaging "Welcome Home" care packages for formerly homeless that are moving into new homes and are on a path towards self-sufficiency. Due to the products involved in this project, it can only be completed at the United Way Gifts in Kind Warehouse.
Budget: Starts at $135/item, maximum of 50 kits

HACKATHON
Volunteers team up to solve a problem! Partner non-profits will submit issues or problems facing their business, and volunteers will be tasked with helping to find viable solutions. It’s a great way to showcase innovative ideas and United Way will facilitate.

BOOK TASTING
This opportunity gives students the ability to “taste” different books through a literacy fair in a fun way. It’s a great way for young readers to explore different titles and create a wish list for their own personal library. Volunteers will be hosts for several stations as they read aloud to the students, as well as, ask questions to ensure comprehension. Each student walks away with a new book for home.
Budget: Starts at $750
DISASTER RELIEF KITS
Volunteers will assemble kits full of essentials that are needed during crisis. Kits include items such as soap, deodorant, lotion, toothpaste, water purifying tablets, socks, sanitary napkins, etc. Kits will be distributed by disaster partners or sent to designated storage warehouses.
Budget: Starts at $25/item, minimum 100 @ $2,500
GARDEN BUILDING
Volunteers will start a garden for a local community, partner agency, or school.
Budget: Starts at $500
BACK-TO-SCHOOL BACKPACKS
Volunteers will assemble backpacks full of essential school supplies for students in low child well-being communities. School supplies are determined by appropriate grade school supply lists.

POP-UP GROCERY STORE
United Way creates a grocery shopping experience for individuals and families, providing fresh produce, dairy, organic prepared foods, and breads & desserts. Volunteers will serve patrons at no charge in communities located in food deserts and areas with low child well-being.
