The Volunteerism Department will help find volunteer opportunities with Partner Agencies and other local non-profits. Options include housing projects, outdoor spaces, education, sorting, donation, etc. Opportunities vary based on need and availability.

Kitting and Care Packages
Volunteers assemble Snack Pack Kits in order to provide a full and balanced meal for children in the community who don’t have regular access to food, whether it be because of financial limitations or living in one of the many food deserts in Atlanta.
Budget: Starts at $3.50/item, minimum 100 @ $350
Adding a book to our traditional snack pack project is a great way to enhance the literacy of children in the community. Volunteers assemble kits and add a grade level book and handwritten note to every bag.
Budget: $600 for 100 items
Volunteers will assemble STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) Kits for underserved students in the Metro Atlanta community to encourage home learning experiences and activities. Kits will include various STEAM project materials and with printed manual guide instructions.

Volunteers assemble Hygiene Kits to provide underserved members in our community with basic hygiene items, such as a toothbrush, toothpaste, and body soap. Recipients include shelters and various community programs that distribute resources to individuals in need.

Items include diapers, wipes, and a thermometer, to ensure that new parents are able to provide the best care in their own home. Volunteers assemble kits with items to support individuals transitioning into a new home, which include basic household items as well as personal hygiene items.

Volunteers will assemble backpacks full of essential school supplies for students in low child well-being communities. School supplies are determined by appropriate grade school supply lists.

Volunteers will spend 1.5 hours packaging "Welcome Home" care packages for formerly homeless that are moving into new homes and are on a path towards self-sufficiency. Due to the products involved in this project, it can only be completed at the United Way Gifts in Kind Warehouse.

Holiday Kitting Projects

Volunteers will write letters of support and encouragement for military members. Recipients are UWGA partner agencies that serve veterans, as well as a Nationally Recognized initiative called Operation Gratitude.

Volunteers host a customized reading event at an early childcare center, school, or organization serving young students. Children will matriculate through stations manned by volunteers who are reading a book, and engaging in activities such as crafts, games, and cookie decorating on the theme of the book.

Volunteers host and run a learning session with students, followed by a networking lunch. Topics of this speed mentorship project can range from career building skills to soft social skills, to topics of the company’s choice based on their employee’s own specialized knowledge.

Volunteers are able to decorate and assemble toiletry filled-shoeboxes for underserved individuals in the community. UWGA will provide shoeboxes, decorating items, and hygiene items for shoeboxes. Recipients include shelters and various community programs that distribute resources to individuals in need. UWGA will coordinate shoebox pick up.

Volunteers can host a toiletry drive and collect items for a Shoebox Party. Volunteers are responsible for providing shoeboxes, decorating items, and hygiene items for the Shoebox Party. Although United Way cannot guarantee that a staff member will be present on the date of the event, UWGA will provide direction and advice in coordination of the project. Recipients include shelters and various community programs that distribute resources to individuals in need. Pickups can be scheduled for 150 or more boxes. If there are less than 150 boxes completed, boxes must be dropped off at one of our drop off locations.
