Healthy Communities brings medical care to where it’s needed most, increasing access to critical health services for the uninsured and underinsured in rural counties throughout Greater Atlanta.

The Issue

In Georgia, life expectancy can vary as much as five to eight years for counties only 30 miles apart, due in part to shortages of physicians, dentists and mental health support, as well as a lack of public transportation.

United Way's Role

United Way partners with Kaiser Permanente to increase access to care for the uninsured and underinsured, as well as for women and children in domestic violence shelters.

The Results

Since 2009, we have connected more than 57,000 individuals with access to medical care, increasing the capacity of rural counties to deliver care.
